Making the Journey

So as you can see I've made it to London, after quite the journey.  Everything was going smoothly through landing, the flight was early, all my baggage had been under the limit, and I was through customs before the scheduled landing time.  And then... no taxi.  I waited, and waited, and waited and even got them to put out a call over the PA system, but still no taxi driver.

Luckily there is an express train from the airport to the center of town and it was much cheaper than the taxi would have been so I got that.  On the way I ran into a couple guys who had been on my flight, British club promoters in Atlanta for a musical festival of some sort. (Maybe the Midtown Music Festival?)

Unfortunately I encountered my mortal enemy as I neared my dorm: stairs.  Two 50 pound bags and several flights of stairs just don't mix so I wasn't a happy camper, although it did lead to a moment that make me believe Londoners might be nicer than Americans.  As I struggled up what would be my final flight of stairs a guy kindly volunteered to help.  Apparently my distress was so bad as to draw pity from even seasoned city dwellers.

But day one ended pretty well with a trip to Primark to get the things that wouldn't fit in my suitcase.  Still no sign of my roommate though.

Number One

I'm copying Alex Pill's brilliant idea of blogging my adventures overseas.  I should post at least weekly, but since I have a poor short term memory it will probably be more often.  I fly out tonight, so look forward to my first post from the City in the next few days.
